We are seeking a highly-skilled oral and maxillofacial surgeon to diagnose patients and treat various conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial parts. Responsibilities include performing emergency and scheduled treatments, maintaining patient records, as well as providing suitable after-care instructions and recommendations.

The Maxillofacial unit has a broad area of activities and consists of three distinct divisions: division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, division of Oral Medicine/pathology and division of Orthognathic surgery orthodontics. The department is characterized by the presence of maxillofacial surgeons (DDS-degree and DDS, MD-degree) and incorporated organization in facial traumatology with two beds in ward. The department is approved as a specialist training clinic in maxillofacial surgery. Our research focus is on these highly specialized areas, Medicine-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, facial trauma and digital technique and Orthognathic surgery.

Region Östergötland is the main health care provider in Östergötland county with approximately 13 000 employees, 11 600 of which in healthcare. Three hospitals and 43 primary care centers are provided for the general population, as well as 40 public dental clinics. The university hospital in Linköping serves the southeastern part of Sweden with 1.2 million inhabitants. Multidisciplinary and specialized care is conducted in collaboration with other departments such as ENT-department, Plastic surgery department and neurosurgical department.

Description of duties and Candidate’s profile and role:

  • We are seeking an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with medical and dental degree (DDS, MD) in European Union and recognized by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/en/licence-application/
  • English and Swedish language skills is required in order to interact with the patients.

As a senior DDS, MD specialist, you are expected to attend both traditional maxillofacial surgery duties as well as the hospitalized patients in our own ward. You will also be required to act as consultant to other hospital departments in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery cases. You are expected to share the on-call scheduled duties. Supervision and assistance to junior physicians and interns as well as continuously evaluation will be a considerable part of working in a University Hospital like Linköping University Hospital.

The following types of surgery are performed in our department:

All forms of facial trauma and injury, dento-alveolar and oral soft tissue surgery, orthognathic and reconstructive surgery. Parts of cleft lip and palate surgery in cooperation with the plastic surgery department. Management of facial pain as well as temporomandibular joint disorders including prosthetic joint replacement. Osseointegrated implantology, periprosthetic surgery. Management of odontogenic infections and odontogenic cysts and other benign lesions as well as premalignant lesions.

Terms of employment
Before moving to Sweden you need to reach a certain level in the Swedish language and have your surgical training recognized by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/en/licence-application/.

Your employment will start with a clinical trial and introduction period, combined with further language studies. If the trial period will be proved satisfactory and you demonstrate required skills recognized by the County Council of Östergötland, it will automatically turn into a permanent employment.  

All contracts follow local and national collective agreements. Salary are set individually depending on your qualification and experience.
