Clinical chemistry is a countywide, accredited university healthcare unit within the Diagnostic center at the county of Östergötland in the south-east of Sweden.

The department bears the medical responsibility for a wide range of analyzes within specialized medical diagnostics performed at the county's three hospital laboratories as well as at patient-near laboratories at the majority of the county's health care centers and at point-of-care units within the hospitals' care departments. The clinic is also responsible for a large range of self-test instruments within the entire county. Our mission also includes a close dialogue with clinical specialties regarding investigations, diagnostics and treatment follow-up within Clinical chemistry, a field in constant development. Our staff consists of long-term trained employees where the medical team today consists of five senior doctors/consultants and three resident doctors who are also responsible for teaching as well as research and development.

Job description

Within the department's area of ​​responsibility, not only a large number of automated routine analyzes are performed, but also highly specialized analyzes using chromatography, mass spectrometry, molecular biology and flow cytometric techniques. In addition, clinical and research consultancy activities are carried out with other departments within the county as well as nationally and internationally. The employees also teach on several educational programs in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Linköping University and conduct active research activities linked to the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences.

Your duties will include to:

  • monitor and be responsible for quality and method validation in the relevant area.
  • monitor the development within the field and to ensure that the range of available analyzes corresponds to the medical need and is updated according to current recommendation
  • contribute with medical expertise in connection with procurements regarding new products within the field of Clinical Chemistry.
  • participate in operational planning in order to create medical safety routines and instructions at the different laboratory units.
  • conduct a constant dialogue with clinical doctors and referring physicians and to design written information concerning new routine or analyzes.
  • create and provide sufficient support to referring physicians regarding pre-analytic and post-analytic management in order to optimize test utilization.
  • format test reports and provide interpretations for specific analyzes or requisitions.
  • participate in the training of resident doctors, students and staff.
  • there are good opportunities to participate in or conduct your own research.

Requirements

Registered medical license within the EU/EEA.

Registered license as a Specialist physician in Laboratory Medicine (Chemical Pathology)

Experience in teaching and research (academic degree) are meritorious.
Basic computer skills.

English and Swedish language skills.

Terms of employment

Before moving to Sweden you need to reach a certain level in the Swedish language and have your medical training recognized by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/en/licence-application/.

The employment will start with a trial period, combined with further language studies. If the trial period will be proved satisfactory and you demonstrate required skills recognized by the County Council of Östergötland, it will automatically turn into a permanent employment.

All contracts follow local and national collective agreements. Salary is set individually depending on your qualification and experience.
